Following discussions with the Women’s Ice Hockey Portfolio holder and the wider NZIHF Management Committee, we are unfortunately announcing the cancellation of the second round of the New Zealand Women’s Ice Hockey League (NZWIHL).

The second round was scheduled to take place on December 11/12, including a play-offs contest.

The continued impact of COVID-19 restrictions, logistical challenges and increasing costs to the league and its players have necessitated this decision.

As with any cancellation to our scheduled activities, we are saddened that this decision means players in this league won’t be able to complete the 2021 season, and our thoughts are with players from Auckland in particular, who haven’t been able to compete on ice since August.

Planning is underway for the 2022 season, and we will share more information about this when we can.
