Under-16 team defeated the Australian
Under-16 team 2-0 in their last
game at the very successful Under-16
Development Camp held in Auckland
over the last week. New Zealand
played Australia three times during
this camp and this is the first
time that Under-16 teams have played
each other.

This is a coaching aid. White plastic
film with drawing of an ice rink
on with a charge that sticks them
to the outside of the rink glass.

Youth Olympic Winter Games will
take place in less than three months’
time and New Zealand will be well
represented. New Zealand’s first
athletes selected to the 2012 Winter
Youth Olympic Team will be part
of this exciting new event which
will see over 1,000 of the world's
best 14-18 year olds contest all
winter Olympic sports. Thirteen
of New Zealand’s finest young winter
talent have been named into the
team and a further two are expected
to join the Team as qualifications
continue until mid-December. Among
the athletes named are Olivia Thomson

The strong Australian team completed

Australia have
ensured they will play in Sunday's
Final at the 2011 New Zealand Winter
Games after their second of two
round robin victories, a 8-2 defeat
of New Zealand's "Ice Blacks".

Australia had
outscored New Zealand 7-1 in the
first two periods, but an increased
level of physicality and effort
for the Ice Blacks kept the final
period fairly even, a good sign
with New Zealand likely to defeat
the Chinese Saturday night in the
lone semi-final.

Ice Hockey Federation would like
to gratefully acknowledge the help
of NZI in assisting the Christchurch
Friendship Team who missed connecting
flights as a result of the Christchurch
earthquake. With the help of Jane
Armstrong (Auckland Claims Manager)
the team was rebooked and able to
make the tournament before it started.
Three teams from New Zealand are
participating
in the 2011 Friendship Tournament
in Hudson, Wisconsin, USA. They
are the Auckland Aces, the Canterbury
Kiwis and the Southern Knights.

Boys Skills Challenge final held
in Christchurch last weekend.
Second place was awarded to Frazer
Ellis (Auckland) Callum and 2011
NZIHF Girls Champion, Libby-Jean
Hay of Auckland will representing
New Zealand in the Global Skills
Challenge in Vierumaki, Finland
in early July. From there the top
15 in each gender will earn entry
to the 2012 Youth Olympic Winter
Games in Innsbruck, Austria in January.

was the event top scorer and was
awarded MVP for the Ice Fernz and
also awarded best overall forward
for the Championship.

Libby Jean Hay
from Auckland won the 2011 NZIHF
Girls Skills Challenge Final
in Dunedin during
the NZ Ice Fernz Training Camp
in early March.
The final pitted
the talents of Libby Jean Hay from
Auckland, Krystie Woodyear-Smith
from Christchurch, Ali Macharg from
Queenstown and Stephanie Patchett
from Dunedin. The boys final
between Frazer
Ellis and Richard Dawson of Auckland,
Max Dallimore and Daniel Monk representing
Christchurch and Callum Burns out
of Queenstown will be held
in Christchurch 16-17 April. More
